The B-EQUAL project developed a number of initiatives that have addressed barriers to employment for Black and Minority Ethnic Communities living within the Bradford District.

In this section you will learn about the remarkable achievements of the projects commissioned by B-EQUAL. The projects were able to work together towards a mutual goal and share common areas of working.

Multi-Faith Calendar

Religious festivals and celebrations of ten world faiths are highlighted on the calendar. The calendar has been designed to create awareness and knowledge of the different religions and festivals. It is a useful and stimulating tool for the office wall.

Legislation Poster

The aim of the poster is to create awareness of UK legislations to bring about an end to unlawful discrimination and create a culture of respect and equality of opportunity for all people.

All organisations are required by law not to discriminate against employees by reason of their race, colour, disability, age, gender, nationality, marital status, ethnic or national origins.

So you want to work in the Council – a recruitment toolkit

The aim of the toolkit is to build an awareness of standard Council documentation and the important role it plays in the recruitment process. Furthermore, a closer understanding will be developed of the processes the Council and other large organisations use in selecting candidates for employment.

It’s all about Diversity

The Bradford District has population rich in diversity, diverse in race and ethnicity, diverse in religion or belief, diverse in age and diverse in disability and gender.

Transnationality is an essential element in the EQUAL Community Initiative for promoting the transfer of know-how and good practice between partnerships and member states. Transnational working has resulted in the successful collaboration of events and the development of products.

Age

Towards the end of 2006 the Government will implement anti-age discrimination regulations under the European Employment Directive. The regulations will serve to make unlawful the unfavourable treatment of employees by direct or indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of age. This section will take you through some of the top tips for business success.



Sexual Orientation

Today more emphasis is being placed on tackling unfair discrimination in the UK. New Equality legislation has outlawed discrimination and harassment in employment and vocational training.



Disability Toolkit

This user friendly and invaluable DVD has been designed to encourage employers on the take up of disabled persons and to motivate people with disabilities; with the aim to create disability awareness. This toolkit features positive role models and their experiences as a disabled person.



Diversity Quiz

The Quiz will act as in information tool and provide people with statistics and information on issues around workforce diversity. The quiz starring Johnny Ball is a valuable training tool around equality and diversity issues.



Equality/Fairness/Diversity/Inclusion Leaflets

The leaflets address the need for understanding and recognising the needs of the communities through promoting fairness, equality and diversity through an inclusive approach.



Graphical Information System

A bespoke web-GIS (Geographical Information System) application has been developed to link to the B-Equal website. The system provides analysis of the performance of all of the B-Equal projects and comparative data on the distribution of ethnic minorities within the district.
