The Creativity Centre Ltd have successfully developed three toolkits based on their research with employers, intermediaries and people from the African, African Caribbean, Bangladeshi and Pakistani communities seeking work or promotion. The toolkits are designed to overcome mismatches in attitudes and perceptions between employers and beneficiaries.

ADAAB (Asian Disability Awareness Action in Bradford)
The B-Equal project commissioned ADAAB to examine the Barriers to Employment for Black and Ethnic Minorities living in the Bradford District. A voluntary organisation addressing issues that affect disabled members of minority communities. ADAAB provides attitudinal disability and cultural training for local employers and unemployed people.
ADAAB were able to produce two training materials around ‘Islam’ and ‘Cultural Awareness of BME Communities’. Not only did they work with local organisations but also provided training, advice and guidance to organisations in other Districts.

WomenZone
WomenZone was established in 1999 by women working and living in the Bradford 3 area for the benefit of women and girls.
WomenZone focus on empowering South Asian women who feel excluded due to religious, cultural and language barriers. It focuses on helping these women build on their literacy, numeracy and employability skills.

ABCD (Action for Black Community Development)
A community organisation looking at barriers to employment from black ethnic minority communities. They undertook a comparative research to look at employment levels within the country and specific to Bradford.
In order to understand the problem of barriers to employment ABCD examined the historical past, stating that within this lay the roots of the present social and economic structure.

ERA (Employers Racing Ahead)
ERA is a consortium of employers that looked at addressing barriers faced by minority communities in accessing employment. ERA developed a resource of information for employers via their website.
The first aim of ERA was to identify the most effective methods of recruiting and training staff from Black and Minority Ethnic communities. The second aim was to raise awareness amongst local employers of increasing the potential of ethnic minority customers.

UCC (Uniformed Careers Consortium)
The Uniformed Careers Consortium is a non-profit making orgnaisation which was established to encourage local ethnic minorities to access career opportunities in the Uniformed Services.
They were established to look at identifying and eliminating the barriers to employment for ethnic minorities within the uniformed services. They also aimed to address the issue of under-representation from ethnic minority communities.

Removing Barriers (Russell Street)
A voluntary organisation based in Keighley. Russell Street undertook outreach work that engaged young people from the minority community to identify the barriers they face.
The project was able to successfully disseminate, network and mainstream innovative methods of engaging disaffected communities into training, employment and empowerment into mainstream activities.

Trescom are a private research and training organisation that provides equality and diversity services to public, private, community/voluntary and social enterprise organisations.
The ‘Equal for All’ project was able to implement an infrastructure, which enabled Trescom Research and Consultancy Ltd to act as an intermediary for employers and women from Asian sub-continent.

POSH (Promoting Opportunities in Social Care & Health)
POSH researched into barriers that prevent individuals from ethnic minorities in the District from entering employment within the health service.
With the support of B-Equal, the POSH project was able to develop and produce a DVD aimed at young people, assisting the NHS in developing a diverse and reflective workforce.

Digitalife (Managing Diversity)
Digitalife are a private training consortium that has developed an on-line qualification in ‘managing a diverse workforce.’ In partnership with B-Equal, Digitalife were able to pilot a qualification aimed at managers.
The qualification was developed in response to the needs expressed by employers within the private and public sector, throughout the UK. A central aim of the programme was to support diversity practitioners in improving their organisation.

KADTAL (Visablity Works)
Keighley Business Partnership (KBP) has successfully analysed methods of supporting Small-Medium Enterprises in the community. B-Equal enabled Kadtal to improve levels of attainment of young people living in the Keighley area. There was a severe lack of Creche facilities, particularly within the Black and Minority Ethnic community. Kadtal undertook the development of a childcare course to meet an essential provision that has been needed in and around Keighley.

Playzone
Playzone is a voluntary organisation established by a group of women in the community who share common interests. These women are unemployed housewives who are primarily from ethnic minority communities and who feel socially excluded due to language, cultural and religious barriers.

BECAS is a community based organisation looking at attainments and skill levels of women form minority ethnic communities. The organisation relies heavily on volunteers. BECAS carried out research into the causes and barriers to Sikh women from entering into the labour market.

Anissa UK is a private intermediary that undertook some research between employers and disadvantaged groups. The project looked at unemployment barriers that South Asian women faced when entering into sustainable employment. ADN (Asian Disability Network now known as "Bradnet")
ADN is a charitable organisation addressing inequalities and barriers to employment for disabled individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic communities.
ADN identified a need to equip employers with information on the needs of disabled people who face discrimination in gaining employment. ADN’s, Pathways to Employment project undertook a series of measures to empower potential employees in developing supporting strategies by arranging conditioned work placements for people with disabilities.

One of the main problems faced by Bradford is the migration of its graduates and the high numbers of graduates on the unemployment register. Bradford Council developed an initiative that provided work placement opportunities for graduates within the local authority.

SVB (Sharing Voices Bradford) Engaging, Experience & Expertise
Sharing Voices is a community mental health project. The project focused on engaging people with mental health issues from black and minority ethnic communities (BME) in articulating their perceptions and experiences of barriers to accessing employment and training.
Sharing Voices (Bradford) have empowered individuals to establish self-help groups, increasing their social role and giving them a voice to say what they want and help others in similar situations.
